Membership
Our veterans are our heroes for life. After serving our country, serious injury shouldn’t stop them from living the full, rewarding lives they deserve. At Paralyzed Veterans of America, Texas Chapter, we fight for better health care and benefits, aid in the search for a truly satisfying career and provide the path to adventure through adaptive sports. What’s more, we are committed to ongoing care by educating clinicians about spinal cord injury, and we’re deeply invested in the future—a cure for paralysis.
From supporting important health issues to connecting people to vital resources and publications, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Texas Chapter is a multifaceted, fully committed advocate for veterans with spinal cord injury and disease (SCI/D) and their spouses. We are a member organization looking out for its members as well as all people with disabilities. Members receive numerous benefits and have their voice heard on issues that matter to them.
Membership is free and open to honorably discharged veterans who have suffered a spinal cord injury or disease (such as MS,ALS), whether or not service connected in origin.
Honorary Membership
A program for an individual who is an outstanding contributor to any of PVA’s programs or activities through a PVA chapter or the National Office, and is not necessarily eligible for any other membership program. This lifetime membership may be bestowed upon an individual by a chapter or the National organization.
Associate Membership
This program is designed to allow individuals and corporations to join the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Texas Chapter as an associate member, that do not qualify as regular members in accordance with PVA and Texas Chapter Bylaws and guidelines. Associate Membership is $25 annually.
Membership is free and open to qualified individuals.
Any individual who meets the following criteria is eligible to join Paralyzed Veterans of America:
- A citizen of the United States
- Was regularly enlisted, inducted, or commissioned, and was accepted for or on active duty in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard of the United States or an ally of the United States
- Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces whose discharge was other than dishonorable
- Is on active duty or must continue to serve after the cessation of hostilities
- An individual who has suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of trauma, disease or disfunction, which results in paralysis of more than one limb.* (Note: The injury or disease onset could have occurred after discharge/retirement from military service.)
* Some examples of diseases (with an impairment of the spinal cord with or without Neuro Deficit Residual): Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Lupus Tuberculosis Multiple sclerosis (MS) Poliomyelitis Spina bifida Spinal stenosis Spinal cord tumor
